Using Your Spam Quarantine

The spam quarantine is an important part of the filter system. If enabled in your spam filter preferences, this is where messages blocked by the spam filter are sent to. It is also where viruses and phishing attacks wind up. You can review the contents of your spam quarantine from within the Customer WebMail.

To access your Message Quarantine

Log into your WebMail account and click on My Quarantine to view the contents of your spam quarantine. All messages in your quarantine are listed on the quarantine screen. Please note that it may take up to 5 minutes for a blocked message to appear in this list. From this screen, you have several options:

Delete: Select one or more messages by clicking on the checkboxes next to each one, and click on the DELETE button to remove the message from your quarantine. Note that messages will automatically be purged from your quarantine after a certain amount of time, according to your spam filter settings. It is not imperative that you delete messages from your quarantine manually if you do not wish to take the time to do it.

Release to Inbox: This will release the message from your quarantine and deliver it to your inbox. Note that messages highlighted in red are viruses or phishing attacks, and you will not be able to release these items.

Release + Whitelist: This will release the message from your quarantine and deliver it to your inbox. It will also automatically add the sender's e-mail address to your whitelist so that future messages. Note that messages highlighted in red are viruses or phishing attacks, and you will not be able to release these items.

Toggle All (text link): This will toggle the checkbox selections for all items on the current page of the spam quarantine.

Spam Filter Settings (text link): Use this link to access your spam filter settings. This is the same as going to the Options button, and selecting the Spam Filtering link.

Why can't I release messages flagged as viruses or spam?

The antivirus engine we use with our filtering system treats both viruses and phishing messages as if they are viruses. The system does not allow releasing of these messages for the reason of containing the infection. If it were possible to release these messages, it would increase the possibility of spreading the infection further, even if the message was in the hands of the most computer-savvy user with flawless antivirus software. If you happen to receive a message containing legitimate content, contact the sender to notify them that you received a virus from their message or file attachment, so that they can resolve the problem and send you clean e-mails again.
