How to access your Web Analytics

All web hosting customers of PortalMedia have included web analytics—statistics regarding the visitors to your web site. Checking up on your web analytics is a very important part of your online marketing strategy. How many people visited, what's visited most often (or least often), what web browsers they're using, what web sites or search engines they arrived from, and search terms used in search engines. Here's how to get there:

1.

Log in to the Customer Portal.
If you do not have a Customer Portal account, register for one here.

2.

From the summary screen, click on Web/E-mail Hosting.

3.

On the web/e-mail hosting screen, make sure the Internet Hosting Account that you wish to view is selected. Then, down the page on the right side of the screen, you will see one or more links to access your web site analytics. (For most customers, there will only be one.) Click on this link to open a window with your month-by-month web analytics.

4.

In the analytics window, the drop-down menus at the top control month and year of the stats you are viewing. The links on the left provide access to the various sections of your analytics. The following are key terms in the summary, for measuring the amount of traffic:

  • Pages or Page Views: Number of web pages viewed. This is different than hits, which also counts individual downloads of interface elements, images, etc. Page views is a more accurate item to track.
  • Number of Visits: This is the number of overall visits to the web site. A visit is a session where a user enters the web site, browses around, and exits the site.
  • Unique Visitors: An estimate of how many different people accessed your web site. This is not an exact statistic, because this is based on the number of unique originating Internet (IP) addresses in your site logs for the given period.
  • Bandwidth: The amount of megabytes or gigabytes downloaded from your web site when pages are accessed, or files are downloaded.
